On the third day of Toronto’s International BuskersFest, I walked north on Young Street and recognized the distinct sound of the Digeridoo or Yidaki. As I got closer, the sound of the three gents playing together, Drums, Saxophone, Flute, Guitar, and Digeridoo, equaled a body moving sound. OKA, captured my attention as soon as they started to grove out in the street. You really can’t help but dance along with the beat. OKA’s music projects a grounded hip-hop, roots, reggae , worldly rhythm. Someone even summed them up as “Try to imagine Bob Marley meets Stevie Wonder via the chemical brothers, on acid, playing in a steaming rainforest with a didgeridoo and you are getting close”
Everyone around felt the urge to dance and sway, easily turning Young Street into a street dance. Needless to say, I spent most of my time dancing along with the infectious rhythm and less time taking photos…
