No music festival is complete without an Australian vibe. Ash Grunwald was the first artist that I saw at Hillside Festival. Seated at the Island stage, I awaited the Aussie blues rockstar, to one man band our socks off. Ash played two different guitars and and a kick drum, while simultaneously singing along with self written, blues rock songs. He then did a rendition of ‘Crazy’ by Gnarls Barkley that brought the rest of the audience to their feet. He is defiantly a must see!
Another band from down under, that brought a little folk rock to the Main Stage, were The Perch Creek Family Band. Perch Creek are two sister, two brothers, and a double bassist with a different surname. Originally seeing them at BuskersFest Toronto for the first time, in 2014. I knew what kind of Multi instrumentalists, megaphone signing, tap-dancing, all round fun kind of performance I was going to see.
Admittedly, I have a bit of a soft spot for Australian music. I use to live in Hamilton Hill, WA, Western Australia, just outside Fremantle, a suburb of Perth City.
